Football Games
From September to November every Friday night's the same,
It's the U.S. Rite of Autumn, it's your high school's football game!
All week long in school their fans will raise a thunderating fuss,
To predict a loss for THEM, and a sweet victory for US!
Oh! The banners and the streamers which bedeck the halls right thru!
The claimed virtues of our players top what mere mortals can do!
The excitement builds, the tension mounts, and then it comes unsealed,
It is game day and the ready crowds pack into your home field!
Such a great event demands a soundtrack colorful and planned,
And, in this league, there are none can top your high school's MARCHING BAND!
Just their warm-up is enough to send a thrill into the crowd,
And then when they play the Anthem, why it does their country proud.
They play when they run and when they block and when they score, of course.
(Although frankly, I'd be glad to never hear again The Horse),
While the players rest, at half time, the big band puts on its show,
All that music, marching, flags and dance are very fine, you know.
And win or lose, after the game, to end this evening long,
Then your high school band stands up and plays the Alma Mater Song.
