Another Marching Contest Day
The sun was bright, the sky was clear,
They've worked so long and now its here,
Last night was late, morning too soon,
They must get to Contest by noon,
At eight they entered the band hall,
They watched the tapes, they'd fix it all,
The soloist has stomach flu,
But he'd still be there, this they knew,
Last practice, final changes made,
Fix broken drums, find things mislaid,
The old band truck broke down last night,
They're here to fix it, its all right,
Then contest prep, clean horns and shoes,
Pack uniforms, load the truck too.
Band parents drape the buses thru,
And put a sign on the truck too.
At Contest don their uniforms,
Unload the truck, get out the horns,
Set out the drinks, arrange the pit,
The band warms up and this is it!
It's over. Now's the time I hate,
They also serve who sit and wait!
The band and parents in the stands,
Feel time has slowed its flowing sands.
Then the announcement and a cheer!
The band will go to State this year!
Back at the bus they get all set,
Then the directors get all wet.
Hard work next week is now their fate,
So, well done band. (Good Luck at State!)
