Band Field Officers

They all signed up early,
For try-outs next spring.
Then they practiced hard,
All those marching band things.
But only a choice few,
Will grab that brass ring,
And be chosen to be,
Band Field Officers.

They work through the summer,
On the contest show,
Help the fish learn marching,
Clean horns 'till they glow,
Then sort out the music,
A chore, still they know,
That they're glad that they are,
Band Field Officers.

When the fall season starts,
Then there is much, much more,
Work evenings and weekends ,
On countless band chores,
But when after contest ,
They announce the scores,
They'll be proud to have been,
Band Field Officers.

Next few years are crucial,
Yes, that's understood.
Employment or college,
Apply then they would.
And whenever they're asked,
Whether they're any good,
They will say that they were,
Band Field Officers.
