Band Telephones

(after E.A. Poe)

See them calling on the phone,
Band tree phone!
Calling other parents with a message not their own.
There's an urgent band hall meeting, and all really must be there,
They've a chance to march in Macy's and there is no time to spare!
So they call, call, call,
Is no one at home at all?
By this dialing, dialing, dialing their whole evening will be blown,
On the phone, phone, phone, phone, phone, phone, phone!
Calling parents on the endless band tree phone!

See her calling on the phone,
Band hall phone!
Calling up her parents so she won't be left alone.
They got back an hour early, this has not occurred before,
Still its late and the director wants to leave and lock the door.
Hear it ring, ring, ring,
What is wrong with the fool thing?
(Their call waiting is ignored while sister chats in posture prone,
On the phone, phone, phone, phone, phone, phone, phone!)
So again she dials the well used band hall phone.

See him calling on the phone,
High tech phone!
With its ninety-seven buttons and real nifty ringer tone.
It has one hundred eighty functions, but just two that he can do,
He only wants to call cross town, but he can't get his call through,
Hear him curse, curse, curse,
And say some things even worse!
But he's just pushed the wrong button and can't get a dial tone,
On the phone, phone, phone, phone, phone, phone, phone!
On that modern complicated high tech phone!

See him calling on the phone,
A cell phone!
Hunting for band members whose location is unknown.
When they left they had nine buses, but just five have now arrived.
They default in thirty minutes, could lose all for which they've strived!
Hear him pray, pray, pray,
That they have not lost their way!
As he tries to find those buses via parent chaperone,
On their phone, phone, phone, phone, phone, phone, phone!
How he hopes they have turned on their new cell phones!
