BAND UNIFORMS

Not enough to play well and true,
We've also got to look nice, too.
They want us all to match, not mix,
And uniforms will do the trick.
New uniforms we got this year,
They were not cheap, in fact quite dear.
The jackets can be worn four ways,
Or dispensed with on rainy days.
The hats are brimmed and in good weather,
We top them off with a white feather.
And finally to complete these frocks,
We must provide our own black socks.

Alas, when fitting, a bad sign,
I was way, way back in the line.
They had enough, I'm not bereft,
But I did have to take what's left.
The fitting ladies did their best,
But the pants come way up my chest,
The sleeves are long, the jacket's tight,
The hat's too big. But its all right,
On field I fit in with the others,
Not spotted yet by my own mother.

(But one thing's bad and please don't scoff,
My buttons! They keep falling off!
